In the summer of 92, Garcia once again found himself in a perilous position as his health deteriorated so significantly he ultimately collapsed. His reemergence here on Halloween three months later, slimmed down and in great spirits, was a real sight for sore eyes for the 17,000 in attendance at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. The setlist for the evening suggests the significance wasnt lost on Garcia. Though hardly an uncommon opener, How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) hints at Garcias gratitude for the outpouring of affection he received; while a poignant take on The Maker spins a tale of a body bent and broken. Thankfully this evening has more to it than just sentimentality there are some exceptionally fine performances here too including a second set thats among the decades best. This Halloween 92 performance includes two performances cherry-picked for previously released compilations: Aint No Bread in the Breadbox from Shining Star and Tangled Up in Blue from Garcia Plays Dylan. The second set opening Shining Star is positively stunning with its lush harmonies and solos illustrating why Melvin Seals dubbed the group the magic band. Elsewhere, rollicking versions of Lay Down Sally, You Never Can Tell [Cest Le Vie], and the show closing Werewolves of London gave the fans plenty of opportunity to shake their bones.

First west coast show for me and boy was it a good one. Definitely the most ‘special’ show I had the pleasure of attending. After a canceled fall tour, the our guy was back and he showed us ‘every little thing is gonna be alright’. Slightly hesitant at first but heated up quick. Shining Star was amazing, Tore up smoked, and that Breadbox! It was a slowed down deep groove but man it hit hard in the jam. Old Jer was back and letting us know it. Werewolves encore. Obvious but so good! Between the music, everyone’s costumes, and everyone in there being spun, it was probably my favorite live Jerry or Dead experience. So glad a good recording is finally out for us with this release. Good Times! Fo Sho!

It took 30 years. I think I listened to bootlegs of various copies regularly every October 31st. One of the best memories of my life being at this show. Thank you Jerry. Thank you too all those that understood how important this show is to those that were there. It will live forever.

This was probably my favorite JGB show. It's between this and the show at The Greek Theater with Bela Fleck sitting in for Midnight Moonlight & Harder They Come. Flew out to Cali and I think there was a Zero show at The Great American Music Hall the first night I was in town and I was first row and sick as a dog. Ended up sleeping in the front row but that enabled me to rock out on Halloween. Getting to hear the Werewolves was worth all of the effort. First time I have seen this show out there.

It was an amazing evening and it's been a tough show to find, especially as well mastered as this release. 30 years later it still brings tears to my eyes with just the first notes of the Shining Star. I still remember the deafening sound of the crowd as he stepped out onto the stage - it may have been enhanced in my head! Thanks for releasing this gem.

Absolutely love this show!! Unfortunately, Tangled Up In Blue is messed at at the 11 minute mark on the flac files. Hopefully this will be fixed, otherwise, amazing release. Thank you.
