In the summer of ’92, Garcia once again found himself in a perilous position as his health deteriorated so significantly he ultimately collapsed. His reemergence here on Halloween three months later, slimmed down and in great spirits, was a real sight for sore eyes for the 17,000 in attendance at the Oakland Coliseum Arena. The setlist for the evening suggests the significance wasn’t lost on Garcia. Though hardly an uncommon opener, “How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)” hints at Garcia’s gratitude for the outpouring of affection he received; while a poignant take on “The Maker” spins a tale of a “body bent and broken.” Thankfully this evening has more to it than just sentimentality – there are some exceptionally fine performances here too including a second set that’s among the decade’s best. This Halloween ’92 performance includes two performances cherry-picked for previously released compilations: “Ain’t No Bread in the Breadbox” from Shining Star and “Tangled Up in Blue” from Garcia Plays Dylan. The second set opening “Shining Star” is positively stunning with its lush harmonies and solos illustrating why Melvin Seals dubbed the group “the magic band.” Elsewhere, rollicking versions of “Lay Down Sally,” “You Never Can Tell [C’est Le Vie],” and the show closing “Werewolves of London” gave the fans plenty of opportunity to shake their bones.

Saw my 1st Grateful Dead concert in Austin TX on 11/15/1971 and got hooked on the vibe. Have to admit I became an even bigger fan of the JGB and this is some of their best.

I haven't had a chance to listen to the whole 2 volume package ad they are in my truck and I haven't been able to drive it, but I am half way through the first set and am just lost in the music. Can't wait for the rest and to order another. Garcia Live: volume 19

The best of the batch. Jerry is in top form with playing, vocal strength and set list choices. May be my favorite show recorded so far. Bright and bouncy in many places, dark and mysterious in others. This requires multiple listens in a variety of setting. Worth the wait!

Jerry and the band take you to church! This is as good as Jerry ever sounded in his late career. While the Dead often fumbled and struggled in the 90’s, Jerry seemed to feel confident and at ease with his much beloved, long-lived side project. He sounds focused & energetic, and both his playing & singing are hitting all the right notes. A truly excellent show.

From 91-95 I think Jerry sounded better and more at ease with the JGB than with ghe Dead and this release is just what i mean. He has room to breath, room to express and emote. This is an emotional and beautiful set and a great addition to the GarciaLive series

Thank you for releasing this amazing show! I had the good fortune to be at the show with my wife, Phoebe, and we boogied all night long. Jerry, the band, and the ladies were on fire. For me JGB was (and still is) IT! Werewolves to cap the show was nothing short of awesome. Keep ‘em comin’!!!

Jerry's emotional impact was the main reason I became and stayed a Dead Head. Jerry touches places of our hearts that no band or other guitarist has. This show, more than many others, is a heart-to-heart celebration, brought tears to my eyes several times, and embraces us all. It’s a very special show not to be missed, where the groove is kind and warm. Thank you, Jerry, and thanks to the family for getting this out.

I'm so very Grateful to have seen the JGB at the Park West in Chicago on several occasions and listening to this particular show sparked so many vivid, beautiful memories that will never Fade Away. Great sound on all tracks and the packaging was superb!!!

Of the last 18 vol, I have got to say this is more of a musically crisp and sharp in its execution show since Electric on the Eel. One of the best aspects of this recording is how well the spirit of this concert is captured on tape. It is way too short. I would rank this right up there with 5/8/1977. Its clear Melvin and Jerry Locking, Kemper and Kahn not ever off throughout the entire performance, Jerry with Jackie and Gloria clicking the entire concert........As evident with the first song (HOW SWEET IT IS....) all the way to Werewolves of London........ GEt this recording, you will not regret it.
