Originally released in 1974, the album was simply titled Garcia. To distinguish this release from the eponymous debut, Garcia (Compliments) takes its revised name from a "Compliments of" sticker which appeared on promotional copies of the album. The album was produced by long-time collaborator John Kahn and peaked at #49 on the Billboard charts upon initial release. Kahn selected the compositions featured on the release with the exception of "Russian Lullaby," which was selected by Garcia. When asked about the selections, Garcia noted: "John and I share such similarities of taste, something that I like John is almost sure to like it. We're very like each other musically. That's one of the reasons I've been playing with him all this time."
In addition to a track list that boasts classics from artists like Chuck Berry, Smokey Robinson, and Peter Rowan, Garcia (Compliments) also boasts an all-star cast of the 1970's most in-demand session players. Joining Garcia & Kahn are drummer Ron Tutt (Elvis), guitarist Larry Carlton (Steely Dan, Joni Mitchell, Fourplay), organist Merl Saunders, and legendary backing vocalists Merry Clayton, and Clydie King, among others.
Garcia (Compliments) was remastered for re-issue by Joe Gastwirt with lacquers cut by Kevin Gray and is pressed to 180gram black vinyl.

Have always loved the cover paintings by the great Victor Moscoso and the reissue duplicated the original embossing. With a stellar cast of musicians, this is one solid LP. Thanks for including the list of players and having the vinyl in a plastic lined inner sleeve...Quality! Oh yeah, the music is great.

Would go 5 stars but to my ear Jerry's vocals are just a tad out in front. Now, that's not necessarily a bad thing, but I would have dialed him back just a tad. The press is whisper quiet, the quality is high! I would have like lyrics and a bit of some backstory included. Like quotes from big Steve or any surviving musicians. I bougt two, and gifted one. Highly recommended! If possible I would have rated this 4.9. Keep these releases coming, pretty please and thank you Jerry, Jerry much!!!!

Lovely pressing! The album was super quiet, flat, without a single press pop. Not much to say about the music. Of course, it’s great, it was Jerry’s. Reflections is my favorite Garcia album, This is a close runner up

Well like many of my fellow heads I finally got back into vinyl late last year. As a result I have been rediscovering my love for all analog music, and that included rediscovering the music of the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia on vinyl. This reissue of " Compliments" is an excellent pressings and sounds phenomenal. So many great tunes, and a few obscure one that were never played live too. The other thing is that Jerry wrote the horn arrangements, which are quite good too. Highly recommended. When can we expect the remastering of Jerry's first solo record?

Whisper quiet, perfectly flat. The inner sleeve is of quality, as well as the outer. One of my favorite records and this is a great pressing, imho

I have an older copy that is well in need of an increase in sound quality. Very much worth the purchase price.

Super high-quality reproduction of the original album. 180g vinyl, high-quality paper-stock for the sleeve, vivid graphic art, poly-vinyl inner sleeve. The whole package reeks of quality. Listening to the record is a joy to the ears. I never owned this album on vinyl so I find myself enjoying it again anew. The sound-quality vs. the CD is evident. I really enjoy it and I'm happy I picked up a copy.
