Originally released in 1988, Almost Acoustic features live recordings from the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band's fall 1987 tour stops at The Wiltern in Los Angeles and the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco. In March 1987 Jerry Garcia, David Nelson, Sandy Rothman, and John Kahn performed a six-song set at a benefit concert at the Fillmore. This group of talented individuals, with the addition of David Kemper and Kenny Kosek, later became the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band, opening for electric Jerry Garcia Band sets between 1987 and 1988. The performances herein honor the works of Jimmie Rodgers and Mississippi John Hurt with covers of bluegrass and folk classics such as "Blue Yodel #9" and "Spike Driver Blues" along with other traditional favorites including "I've Been All Around this World," and "Deep Elem Blues," plus the Garcia/Hunter masterpiece "Ripple."
This re-issue was re-mastered by Fred Kevorkian and pressed onto two 180 gram purple LPs. Each set sits in gatefold packaging and includes a free MP3 download of the album audio.

A true gem....June 18, 2019This one is really a gem. First off, I think some of the best, most engaged music Jerry was making the last 8-10 years of his life was the acoustic music like with this band and with David Grisman. You can just hear his energy smiling through and all the players in this band were top notch - the tightness, the phrasing, and choice of tunes is all excellent. And of course Jerry's voice and playing here are just superb. So the content is already all just A+ as anyone familiar with this release knows. To have it on vinyl with excellent sound quality and mixing all wrapped up in a cool purple printing and a classic bifold double album design is whip cream on on already awesome treat. THANK YOU! :)

RichMay 30, 2019I’m Excited that I got to my local record store today in time to pick this one up! The gatefold packaging is very sturdy and the remastered sound quality is great. Well worth the price. Thanks for re-issuing this one!
