Regarded as one of several standouts from the bands landmark fall 91 tour, this stop in Hampton is certainly worthy of its lore. In addition to having all the hallmarks of a quintessential latter era Jerry Garcia Band performance, this night featured a very special guest: Virginias own Bruce Hornsby joining on electric piano for the first and only time. The setlist is typically well balanced mixing road tested staples, like the show opening How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You) and The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, along with more recent additions to Garcias songbook including Van Morrisons Bright Side of the Road and the show-closing What A Wonderful World. Playing with Hornsby always seemed to ignite a spark within Garcia and this proved to be no exception with their potent chemistry fueling lively versions of Aint No Bread in the Breadbox, You Never Can Tell (Cest La Vie), and Midnight Moonlight. The collection is pressed to five 180gram LPs in a limited edition of 7,500. Housed in a deluxe clamshell box, the release features new artwork by painter Graham Yarrington and an etching on the closing side.

I’ve had this show on cd. Bought the vinyl for my Deadhead son-in-law. Great show, always good interplay with Bruce Hornsby. They up each other’s game when they play together. If you see any video of the show, Jerry has this beaming smile for a lot of the show. He really takes over and stretches out on the jams. Like the Grateful Dead, but different. That JGB live album above was an early live show with a lot of gems. Both these shows are great. The Music Never Stops!

Great performance, good audio, but I just thought it was worth saying that it is in mono because that info is nowhere else! Happy bicycle day, I'll have to spin this later in the evening when I am celebrating!

This is a really clean audio recording considering it is a vinyl. I am very pleased to have purchased this. Some highlights include a robust HOW SWEET IT IS, C'EST LA VIE, BRIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD and soulfully powerful, SHINING STAR. I hope all who read this are at some peace in their life. If not, buy this record and you will have a shared moment of the joy of this recording. Peace!
